Recently I was contacted by the daughter of a client who was suddenly unable to access her Xtra emails through her Dolphin Guide software. Everything had been working perfectly one day then not the next. Email could be accessed through her Xtra account but it wasn’t coming through to Guide.
After checking nothing had been changed in Guide’s email settings we then concluded this could be an IT issue as Xtra had previously done some work in the area which had caused problems.
The daughter contacted her local Geeks on Wheels technician who came in and discovered that with all the process of Xtra moving from Yahoo back to NZ the new server is now determining who is deemed to be a security risk and who isn’t. Older or “foreign” programs, such as Guide are considered more of a security risk of hacking and so they have been deleted off the allowable list.
In this case the technician was able to set up a Gmail which then collects emails from Xtra and then loads them into Dolphin Guide. The client is able to send directly from Guide (something the technician was surprised at but pleased as it was one less complication) so her sent from address still shows up as @xtra.co.nz.
If you experience problems with your Xtra email then you are best advised to contact an IT consultant in the first instance. We recommend using gmail with Guide as it is free and we know it works well.
